Karen has specialized in businesses that serve the elderly and aging baby boomers since 1993.
Her professional experience in the aging field was supplemented by real world experience
when she was a live-in caregiver for her 94-year-old uncle.  Magnolia Prime was selected as a
finalist in the 2009 Silicon Valley Boomer Venture Summit business plan competition.  

Karen was Executive Director of a geriatric care management practice based in Boston. As
project development team member for a Boston-based company, which developed retirement
housing campuses she coordinated legal, environmental and permitting is-sues. Karen has
several years of management consulting experience with top-tier firms where she focused on
information systems design and implementation and information technology strategy needs of
Fortune 1000 companies. She was later able to bring her private sector skills and experiences
to her political appointment as Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Cambridge.

Stanford University recently presented Karen with the Award of Merit for her volunteer
leadership to the university.  Karen was Director of the Stanford Business School Alumni
Association and served on the corporate board and finance committee of the Cambridge Health
Alliance. She has served as Secretary of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care
Managers - New England Chapter and Director of the Massachusetts Assisted Living
Association. Past volunteer activities have included trustee roles for various types of senior
housing such as assisted living and government-funded apartments.

Now based in California, Karen is a Trustee of the Washington, DC-based National Caucus and
Center for Black Aged. Karen was recently received the Award of Merit from the Stanford
Associates for her outstanding volunteer contributions to Stanford University. She has
mentored a high school senior through the college and scholarship application process,
moderated a local film festival and performed in two musicals.

Karen was awarded an MBA from Stanford University, and a BA from the University of Michigan
in Applied Mathematics.
