
Emily Hall founded Olive Grove Consulting in 2002 and serves as its President, aligning the needs of
clients with a network of over 35 consultants and multiple partner firms in Northern California and
nationally. Emily has provided strategic consulting services to community leaders, nonprofits, boards,
corporations, government and philanthropists for nearly two decades. She has consulted to
organizations of every size, sector, stage of development, and mission focus. While Olive Grove
Consulting provides a full range of consulting services, Emily’s own consulting work focuses primarily on:

Emily is known as a trusted, knowledgeable, and confidential advisor, and a systems thinker who can
quickly distill complex information into clear patterns and options. She works with clients to enhance
alignment among their strategy, governance, staff, structure, culture, values, and program delivery.
Emily works with boards and CEOs as they face difficult decisions and challenges, helping them focus on
their core mission and manage change. She works with boards to ensure they take a comprehensive,
system-wide approach to accountability and transparency. Emily assists with board development and
training, linking governance practices with the strategic needs of the organization, and coaching for
effective leadership. Emily also serves as a trusted advisor to philanthropists, family foundations, and
corporations seeking to strengthen society.
Emily has worked in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors, serving as Executive Vice President and
head of the West Coast Nonprofit Practice for DHR International, Director of the West Coast Nonprofit
Practice for A.T. Kearney, and Director of Executive Search at The Management Center. She also has
extensive experience as a board member in both New York and the Bay Area. As a Founder and
President, she has developed Olive Grove from a small sole proprietor operation into a full-service
consulting firm with three dozen experienced consultants, a network of partner firms, and a business
that is nearly 100% referral-based.
Emily holds a B.A. from Northwestern University and studied abroad at the University of Sussex in
England. She completed coursework for an M.A. in Human Resources and Organization Development at
the University of San Francisco. Emily has conducted surveys on industry trends, written
thought-papers, served as guest lecturer at the University of Michigan and the Haas School of Business,
and served on the selection panel for Craigslist Venture Philanthropy Forum. She has designed and
delivered curricula on topics such as strategic succession planning; strategy; executive transitions and
recruiting; organizational change; effective decision making; and a range of governance and
accountability topics and has spoken at conferences nationally. Emily has extensive experience as a
board member in both New York and the Bay Area. She has been a member of numerous industry
associations, is an Alumni Coordinator for Northwestern University's Public Interest Program, serves as
an Advisor to the Community Leadership Project at the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, and is a
grants reviewer for San Francisco's Department of Children, Youth and Families.
